| Based on the author’s revision practice,devoted to finding out problems and proposing suggestions from the viewpoint of revisers,the author divided the body of the report into four parts: task description,revision process,and problems and solutions concerning the draft translation and the revision process.The source texts are a series of standards related to occupational health,safety and environment(HSE)for international projects,and are characterized by the massive use of terms,modal verbs,long sentences and sentences without subjects.The author finds out some problems with the draft translation and the whole revision process,which needs to be improved.For the former,the report spends more ink on the mistranslation from the ambiguity of the source text,the inconsistency of terms,the misuse of modal verbs and the mistranslation of long sentences;for the latter,the report concentrates on no training for junior revisers,lack of clarity in revision requirements and inactive communication among revisers.With in-depth case analysis and theoretical analysis between Chinese and English,the author puts forwards some suggestions pertinently on a large scale,building on the classification of these problems,including normalizing the terms,making a thorough analysis for the source text,normalizing the revision procedure and raising junior revisers’ awareness of problems in revision.Through these reflections and suggestions in the revision report,the author hopes to provide some lessons and inspirations for the future revision practices. |
