A Report On C-E Translation Of The Great Man From The Perspective Of Skopos Theory

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to circulate globally and has affected all aspects of human life profoundly.Against this context,The Great Man tells the story of an ordinary cameraman who worked with front-liners during the pandemic.This fiction is a piece of experimental literature,including story-telling narration,four scripts and a contemporary poem.By analysing the English translation of The Great Man based on the three rules of the Skopos theory,the report explores the choice of translation skills and strategies for literary texts guided by the Skopos theory to improve the quality of the translation through making the target text natural and fluent and accurately conveying the author’ s creative ideas while preserving the form and aesthetics of the original text.This report explores the translation methods adopted for the purpose of producing a high-quality translation under the guidance of the three rules of the Skopos theory.Firstly,based on the skopos rule,amplification,negation and free translation have been used to deliver the original intent and to achieve the communicative purpose of the text;secondly,under the coherence rule,inversion,omission,conversion and voice change have been adopted to achieve the intratextual coherence in making the target text more readable and acceptable;lastly,following the fidelity rule,annotation and word-for-word translation have been applied to ensure the intertextual coherence.The study is expected to provide some reference for the selection of skills and methods for the translation of experimental literature.
