On April 12th,2018,the Ministry of Education officially issued China Standards of English(CSE),which came into effect in the same year.The issue of CSE will serve as an effective tool for teaching and learning.In Inner Mongolia,the test paper for College Entrance Exam takes the II version.In this test paper,listening(30 scores)is not included in the final score,that is,reading takes 1/3 of the total score.For other practices like cloze,the key to get higher score is based on the fact that the students have a good command of English reading ability.Faced such situation,especially when reading accounts for a large proportion,how should we teach English reading based on CSE and therefore promote students reading skills is well worth considering.In view of current situation,the author uses CSE as the supplement of New Curriculum,with action research approach,aiming to test whether CSE can be applied in the practice,to help the teacher set teaching objectives and plan the reading class and therefore,improve students’reading proficiency.This study attempts to answer the following two questions:1)how to efficiently plan the teaching objectives and content?2)how to effectively improve students reading skills?The subjects of this study are 56 senior two students from Hohhot No.2 High School.To figure out the answers to the above two questions,this research is carried out through literature review,two rounds of action researches and reflections and the comparison of the pre-test and post-test data.The results are as follows:the application of CSE is instrumental in teaching and learning.
