An Action Research Of Applying Lexical Approach To Teaching Of English Reading In Senior High School

This paper reports the process of action research of applying lexical approach to teaching of English reading in senior high school.The research subject is a senior one art class in an art high school.Through action research,the author hopes to explore how to apply lexical approach in his reading class reasonably,reflect on the practical problems encountered in the action research process,and change his reading teaching practice constantly.In the research,the author hopes to develop his own ability in reading teaching,increase student’s chunk awareness and improve reading teaching.This action research is divided into two research rounds: In the first round of action research,students looked up new words before reading teaching,built chunk network during reading teaching and carried out group reading after reading teaching.During the first round of action research,through interviews and tests,the author found that students were not skilled at new words identifying and chunk using.After reflection,the author adjusted the action plan.In the second round of action research,students’ vocabulary and chunk were strengthened by dictation,chunk application training in class and summary writing.After a semester’s action research,by using the above methods,students’ “chunk awareness” has been effectively improved;In the continuous exploration and reflection,the author gained some experience to cultivate student’s chunk awareness,such as: the effective use of dictionaries,teaching chunk in context,repeating the chunk properly,arranging chunk practicing reasonably.However,since the time of this study is less than one semester,the application of lexical approach to reading teaching is still in the initial stage and needs further exploration.
