In English teaching,we often learn some theories and practices from foreign countries,especially in English-speaking countries.Phonics is a teaching method that we have introduced from abroad in recent years.Phonics is a method to help students recognize,read and write alphabetic writing.The reason why phonics can help children in English-speaking countries to literate is because these children have already reserved a certain amount of vocabulary and acquired language ability— they can understand,speak English,and use English in daily communication before learning phonics.For Chinese students,they generally start learning English from primary school.They lack English language environment and don’t have such language ability.Therefore,Phonics is not suitable for Chinese primary school students.Due to insufficient understanding of phonics and their students,some teachers in primary schools use phonics in English teaching.It leads to the misuse of phonics,which mainly includes three common types: using phonics in the wrong object;using phonics to teach pronunciation and vocabulary;using phonics beyond the requirements of the curriculum standards.These misuses will inevitably cause harm to students.For example,it will increase burden on students and be unfavorable for students to master language ability,etc.Teachers should choose appropriate teaching methods according to students’ English level and development needs;teachers should make English easy to learn and try to enhance students’ confidence and interest in English learning so that they can experience the fun of learning and obtain a sense of success.The specific suggestions are as follows.First,teachers should gain more knowledge about phonics and other teaching methods;Second,teachers should choose correct methods according to students and curriculum standards;Third,teachers should explore the correct teaching methods for Chinese students’ English learning. |
