Fluency is one of the important criteria for judging the quality of simultaneous interpreting, and disfluency is one of the common problems student interpreters encounter in learning simultaneous interpreting. The research objective of this thesis is to describe the influence of linguistic style on the disfluencies in students’ output of English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting.Based on Gile’s Effort Model, this thesis further analyzes the causes behind the disfluencies and proposes coping strategies.Through experiments, questionnaires and stimulated recalls, this thesis conducts a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the collected data, and draws following conclusions:the linguistic style does have influence on student interpreters’disfluencies in English-Chinese simultaneous interpreting output.Specifically, the oral style is more likely to trigger disfluencies in the interpreting output. The influence is attributed to the characteristics of the two styles which occupy student interpreters’processing capacity to different degree. Therefore, based on the experimental data and practical experience, coping tactics are put forward from five aspects:listening analysis,production,memory,self-monitoring and stress management.
