A Study On The Subject Matter And Expression Methods Of Liao Bingxiong's Comic Series "A Geng

This paper takes "Ah Geng",a series of comics created by Liao Bing in Hong Kong period,as the research object.Based on 224 cartoons found so far,this series of works is analyzed and studied.This paper takes the subject matter and the way of expression of the works as the entry point to explore Liao Bingxiong’s artistic choice in the creation of series of comics and the artistic belief behind it.Through comparison,it is found that the theme and picture performance of ’Ah Geng"comics have changed in essence at the same time.Based on the information of newspapers and periodicals contained in the cartoon and the attitude and stance of Liao Bingbrother in his own statement,the author draws a conclusion:"This change in subject matter and expression mode is the representation of ’Ah Geng’cartoon moving towards’ art for the people ’completely.The juxtaposition of Liao Bing’s artistic belief of "art for the people" and his works is discussed.Summarize the characteristics and redeeming points of "Ah Geng" cartoon,and re-examine today’s art and humanistic ecology.As for the structure of the paper,the first and second chapters of this paper respectively give a brief overview of the basic situation of Liao Bing Brother and Ah Geng cartoon.The second chapter makes accurate statistics on the scale,positioning and existing situation of the works,which makes preparation for the discussion below.The third to fifth chapters of this paper discuss the theme content,expression and related creation and publishing environment of Ah Geng cartoon respectively.In the third chapter,it is found that "Ah Geng" has changed in nature after being transferred to Huashang Daily,and the cartoon is characterized as a news cartoon with revolutionary theme.Finally,in the sixth chapter,I conclude the above discussion,draw a conclusion,and further extend the discussion and reflection for its significance."Ah Geng" is not only a comic strip,but also as a cultural symbol bearing the unique significance of The Times.Liao Bingxiong plays the villain with the main character Ah Geng in the comic,trying to awaken justice in the hearts of Hong Kong people.Gradually "Ah Geng" become the reader’s eyes patriotism,democratic revolution,anti-Chiang and anti-aggression pronoun.Today’s thematic research on this series of works has the value of literature research.Secondly,I hope that this research,as a successful case of cultural integration between Guangdong and Hong Kong in history,will contribute to the construction of a "cultural Bay Area" in Guangdong,Hong Kong and Macao.Finally,learn and practice Liao Bing’s artistic belief of "art for the people" in Ah Geng,and speak out for the society and the people.
