This thesis starts with introducing the life experiences of Mr.Xiong Bing Ming, implementing the methods of comprehensiveliterature review, live interview, and comparative analysis. Ittries to panoramically outline Mr. Xiong’s ideas on ChineseCalligraphy using the following approaches: a/detailedly analyzingand reviewing Xiong’s book, Skeleton of Chinese CalligraphyTheoretic Syetems; b/exploring and discussing on the three“experimental” calligraphy programs he organized in China; c/Deeply illuminating and interpreting his ideas of “Calligraphy andUltimate concern of life” and “Calligraphy as the core of the coreof Chinese Culture”.The author believes that the significance of Mr. Xiong’s ideasis as follows: firstly, Mr. Xiong Bases his position on theperspective of blending cultures of different natures. By doing that,he breaks the shackles of analyzing calligraphy from merely nativeculture’s view point, therefore, he provides a relatively completetheory scheme for the contemporary calligraphic research, openinga novel gate for the dialogue between calligraphy and modern artand for the possibility of promoting calligraphy world widely;secondly, Mr. Xiong connects the theories with calligraphy practice, and with his novel “perspective of calligraphy”, creativelyintroduces his “calligraphy methodology” into the arena ofcalligraphy studies. For example, using western psychology as atheory base, he takes initiative to introduce the method of formalanalysis for the studies of calligraphy works. And the methodsintroduced by him are still widely used in the professional circlesof Chinese calligraphy; Finally, Mr. Xiong’s ideas of “coretheory” and “human-base theory” are still of practicalsignificances nowadays.
