As a choral conductor,training a choir not only requires the choir members in terms of vocalization,pitch,rhythm,and acoustics,guiding the choir members to express the emotions of the musical work is also an important part of interpreting the choral work and improving the level of the choir.This thesis takes the rehearsal of Edward Elgar’s The Snow with VIVA Choir as a practical case,explores the way the conductor guides the choir members to express the emotion of the work.This thesis contains three parts.The first part is the first chapter,the introduction,which mainly elaborates the background of this thesis and the research methods;the second part is the second and third chapters,which discusses and analyzes the three dimensions of what emotion is,the necessity of emotional expression,and the factors that hinder choristers’ emotional expression;the third part is the fourth chapter,through the rehearsal process of the Snow by VIVA choir,the conductor’s exploration of guiding choristers’ emotional expression was implemented into different training sessions,thus better stimulating choristers’ emotional expression of the work.
