A Study On The Characters And Songs Of Mary Magdalene In Elgar's Oratorio The Kingdom

Edward Elgar,who was known as Britain's pioneer music renaissance in 20th century,created numerous outstanding works throughout his life.The composer who played a major role in Britain's music renaissance in 20th century has rarely been noticed at home.This thesis takes Mary Magdalene's figure image as well as his main aria as research object in Edward's oratorio Kingdom,and analyzes his main aria from script music singing processing etc.9 In terms of text,one is to refer to characters images in biblical stories,and make certain understanding about characters' characters in drama,but rather analyze roles and status played by characters in script.Mainly from script music singing processing etc.several aspects of Mary Magdalene main aria carried out comprehensive analysis and exploration.This paper is divided into four chapters.the first chapter is a summary of the life of the composer Edward Elgar,whose family background and early experience laid the foundation for his later fame,and then in marriage,because of the strong support of his wife,to pave the way for him to create excellent works,and finally he enjoyed a high reputation in England at that time.The second chapter expounds the script text of the oratorio kingdom,and the whole oratorio is divided into five chapters to explain and analyze the play of the oratorio.Combined with historical images,plays and music examples,the third chapter analyzes the characters of Mary Magdalene in history and in the play.the fourth chapter makes a comprehensive analysis of Mary Magdalene's main songs in the play from two aspects of music analysis and singing.
