| Reading is an important part of high school English teaching,it is also an indispensable part of student’ future life and work.As far as the current English reading teaching is concerned, most teachers have a single teaching mode, and the teaching content is only limited to textbooks. The reading class is also teacher-centered,and students lack the opportunities to show themselves, read independently, discuss, debate, cooperate to learn and express their own views. In view of the current situation of high school English reading teaching and learning, the author introduces the novel teaching mode of “Literature Circles” model into high school English reading class.Based on cooperative learning theory,Krashen input hypothesis theory, constructivism theory and independent learning theory, the writer of this paper took the senior one students of Haihu Middle School in Xining,Qinghai Province as the experimental subjects. The purpose of this study is to verify whether the introduction of “Literature Circles” model into reading teaching can improve students’ reading interest, change students’ reading attitude, cultivate students’ good reading habits, and improve students’ autonomous and cooperative learning ability. In this experiment, the author takes Class 1 of Grade 1 as the experimental class which adopted the “Literature Circles” model, and Class 2 of Grade 1 as the control class, which didn’t adopt the “Literature Circles” model but adopted the conventional teaching mode. For this study, the writer put forward the following three questions. In this experiment, questionnaires, tests and interviews were used for a semester of experiment, and the data collected were analyzed by SPSS 23.0 software. Finally, the writer draws a conclusion and answers the three questions raised. The three research questions are as follows:Q1:What are the problems in English Reading teaching and learning in senior high schools?Q2:What effect does the “Literature Circles” model have on students English reading scores ?Q3:In what aspects does the application of the “Literature Circles” model affect students’ reading ?After the end of the experiment, the author made a comparative analysis of the data, and the author came to the conclusion that there are some problems in the teaching of English reading in high school. At the same time, most high school students seldom spend time reading extracurricular book, they lack of independent awareness of reading, their interest in reading is not high, and their attitude towards reading is mainly to cope with the after-class exercises and exams assigned by teachers.Students seldom make reasonable reading plans, and they rarely discuss with classmates in the process of reading, and their consciousness of cooperative learning is weak. This experimental study shows that under the “Literature Circles” model, the students’ reading ability has been significantly improved, their interest in reading also has been significantly improved, and their reading attitude has also been positively changed.More students are willing to read for reasons such as improving self-cultivation and broadening their horizons.Through the experiment of one semester, the author proves the feasibility of applying the “Literature Circles” model to the English reading teaching in senior high school. After a semester of experiment, the author obtains some new ideas and enlightenment for high school English reading teaching, and provides some feasible suggestions for high school English reading teaching. |
