With the improvement of China’s comprehensive national strength,English is not only a window for China to know the world,but also a channel for the world to know China.Therefore,integrating Chinese culture into foreign language teaching is the need of China’s development.Meanwhile,China has issued various programmatic documents and revised the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education to strengthen Chinese cultural education recently.Besides,China has put forward new requirements for foreign language teaching objectives,that is,to pay attention to the cultivation of students’ feelings of patriotism in foreign language teaching.Therefore,it is important to explore the strategy of integrating Chinese culture into English teaching.Although there are many researches on strategies of the integration of Chinese culture into English teaching in China,mainly concentrated in college and high school English teaching,less in middle school English teaching.Therefore,based on Rogers meaningful learning theory and constructivism theory and adopts classroom observation and interview,this study takes the English class of two parallel classes in grade eight of A middle school as the research object.It aims to solve the following two questions.Two questions are:(1)What are teaching strategies to integrate Chinese culture into middle school English teaching?(2)Are strategies of integrating Chinese culture into middle school English teaching effective?This study has explored three strategies of integrating Chinese culture into middle school English teaching,namely: pre-class strategies: enrich the knowledge reserve of Chinese culture,analyze the content of Chinese culture teaching,strengthen the integration of Chinese culture in pre-class;while-class strategies: create Chinese culture learning context,design Chinese culture training activities,pay attention to Chinese culture study evaluation;after-class strategies: pay attention to homework design and feedback,continue to integrate Chinese culture after class.In addition,this study tests the effectiveness of the teaching strategies by analyzing the comparison results between the experimental and the control class.Based on the research conclusion,this study draws four teaching implications:(1)To enhance middle school English teachers’ Chinese cultural literacy.(2)To develop school-based textbooks and courses on Chinese culture for middle school.(3)To increase the proportion of Chinese culture in middle school English tests.(4)To develop extra-curricular activities to extend the study of Chinese culture. |
