Motivation has always been the core issue of teaching.The study of motivation in English learning has gone through more than 60 years of development.Scholars at home and abroad have put forward a variety of motivation theories.The low motivation of students still exists in our English reading teaching classroom,which brings forward new problems for our English teaching research.MUSIC motivation model is a learning motivation model summarized by Professor Brett D Jones on the basis of social cognitive theory and a variety of motivation theories.It proposes to analyze students’ learning motivation from five dimensions: entrusting students with rights,students’ perception of the usefulness of learning materials,successful experience,and caring.From the perspective of MUSIC motivation model,this study conducted a three-month experimental research and following survey on the students in a class of M middle School in H City.It investigated the current situation of junior high school students’ English reading learning motivation through questionnaires and interviews,and mainly investigated the influence of applying MUSIC motivation model to junior high school English reading class on students’ learning motivation and academic performance.The five dimensions of usefulness,success,interest and concern put forward the teaching strategies of junior high school English reading.This study is based on three research questions:1.What is the impact of applying MUSIC motivation model to junior high school English reading teaching on learning motivation of students?2.What is the impact of applying MUSIC motivation model to junior high school English reading teaching on academic performance of students?3.What are the strategies of applying MUSIC motivation model to junior high school English reading teaching?The research results show that the application of MUSIC motivation model in junior high school English reading teaching has a positive impact on students’ reading performance and learning motivation.and students’ reading performance and reading motivation have significantly improved before and after the experiment.Secondly,by applying the teaching strategy based on MUSIC motivation model to junior high school English reading classroom.This paper provides some new ideas and references for junior high school English reading teaching in the future.
