As a language tool,English has played a very important role in the communication in the globalization of international economy,culture,politics and other fields.Nowadays,with the popularization of English,English reading is becoming more and more important in our work,study and life,especially for junior high school students,the importance of English reading is particularly prominent,because English reading occupies a very important proportion in various examinations,such as senior high school entrance examination,college entrance examination,overseas study examination,etc.At the same time,modern pedagogical theories generally believe that self-determination motivation is of great significance to current English teaching.Based on the characteristics of autonomous learning,this paper expounds the connotation of learning motivation,the concept and classification of self-determined motivation,in which the types of self-determined motivation are divided into internal motivation,external motivation and non-motivation,and the ext。Then it takes the learning activities of junior high school students in our country as the object,and combines the actual situation of junior high school students’ English reading level,determines the questions of questionnaire survey and interview,and further studies the status of junior high school students’ English reading self-determination motivation.Through investigation and analysis of the current reading situation of junior high school students,it is found that at present junior high school students are generally not interested in English reading.Most junior high school students do English reading not out of their own volition,but in order to cope with the examination.Some students do English reading because they believe that English reading is helpful to English learning,English reading is helpful to the study of other subjects and to the improvement of English scores.In addition,most junior high school students have strong identification and belonging needs.It is understood that the problems existing in the English reading process of students include: lack of autonomy of students,single teaching method of teachers,neglect of extracurricular reading ability cultivation,one-sided pursuit of graduation rate by schools,neglect of students’ needs,reading obstacles caused by cultural differences,etc.Therefore,the author has studied the corresponding countermeasures and feasible measures to improve the quality of junior high school English teaching: to support students’ independent needs,to establish students’ dominant position,to respect students’ interests and hobbies,to return the freedom and rights of learning to students,and to create internal motivation for students;Teachers should innovate the teaching organization form,change from the traditional teaching method,adopt diversified teaching methods,stimulate the learning motivation of junior high school students,and fundamentally change the situation of passively accepting knowledge.At the same time,we should increase the development of students’ reading resources,choose suitable extracurricular reading materials,enrich the background knowledge of junior high school students,In addition,the environment is also very important,so we also need to create an environment,create a good reading environment,actively create a "scholarly campus",and adjust the external motivation.In the process of teaching junior high school English,the most important thing is to guide junior high school students and discover the meaning of learning,and then cultivate junior high school students’ interest,from passive learning to active exploration learning.Junior high school students transform external motivation and pressure into internal motivation by improving their self-determination motivation.With the guidance and help of teachers,they can adjust and train,improve their study and achieve their studies.
