A Strategic Study Of Subject-based English Reading Teaching In Senior High School

Abstract/Summary:
The cultivation of virtue and personality is the fundamental task of education in China,and disciplinary education is an important component of achieving this goal.Specifically,in the subject of English,teachers play a crucial role in cultivating virtue and personality in students.However,in actual high school English teaching,some English teachers focus too much on exam-oriented teaching,neglecting the cultivation of students’ patriotic and global outlook,as well as their individual character.This is detrimental to the cultivation of talent in English disciplinary education.Therefore,this study focuses on high school English reading teaching,using questionnaires,interviews,and classroom observations to explore the shortcomings of disciplinary education in reading teaching,and to discuss how English disciplinary education can be implemented in high school English reading teaching.The aim is to provide English teachers with strategies to improve their teaching of reading and to realize the value of English reading teaching in cultivating virtue and personality.Based on Du Rui’s six categories of disciplinary education and the various aspects of reading teaching,the present author used constructivist theories,selfdesigned observation checklists,and questionnaires to observe the English reading teaching of 24 teachers.Based on analyzing the results of six teacher interviews and questionnaires,the study finds that while English reading teaching is progressing towards disciplinary education,there are still some shortcomings,including: teachercentered teaching,a lack of individual text interpretation,inadequate creation of scenarios for character education,insufficient cultivation of students’ thinking and cultural awareness,and a narrow range of English reading teaching methods.Based on the above analysis and conclusions,this study proposes some strategies to improve English reading teaching from a disciplinary education perspective,including: clarifying the position of students as the main focus,enhancing teacherstudent interaction,analyzing student needs,and improving scenarios for reading teaching,strengthening the use of information technology to improve disciplinary education,enhancing teacher text interpretation awareness and student text interpretation abilities,attaching importance to cultural awareness and improving cultural presentation,and encouraging students to think critically and to strengthen their thinking qualities.This study aims to explore strategies for implementing English disciplinary education in high school English reading teaching,and to provide English teachers with some strategies and suggestions for improving reading teaching in order to realize the value of English teaching in cultivating virtue and personality.
