| Bartók’s Suite op.14 was composed in 1916 and is a solo piano work from his intermediate period.It is a continuation of Bartók’s style of piano writing,with a distinctive acoustic and a more pronounced oriental flavour.The pieces are based on folk music from all over the world and are full of energy and humour,reflecting Bartók’s neo-nationalist tendencies.In this essay,an in-depth analysis of the work is presented,looking at Bartók’s compositional style,the analysis of his compositions and the analysis of his performances.In the first part of the first chapter,the author divides Bartók’s life into three parts: his school days,his creative career and his exile in the United States,briefly outlining the author’s life experiences,his compositions and the changes in his compositional style during the different periods.The second part describes the background to the composition of the Suite op.14,its publication,and the revisions made to the work.The third part elaborates on the compositional style of the work,dissecting it through a brief overview of the work given by Bartók in an interview,as well as an analysis of Bartók’s absorption and fusion of folk music as concretely reflected in this repertoire.In the second chapter,the author analyses each piece in Suite op.14,presenting the structure of the piece in the form of a trilinear diagram.In the third chapter,the author analyses the Suite op.14 through six sections: skipping,melody,ornamentation,runs,octaves and chords,and pedals,as well as analysing and explaining the solutions to the problems that have arisen in the author’s playing practice.In general,the interpretation of this work requires a deep understanding and accurate grasp of the unique style of composition.It is important to master the intricacies of the technique and the difficulties of expression,to pay attention to the nuances of tempo,intensity and timbre,to explore the richness and artistic value of the work,to show one’s own understanding and perception,and to sincerely convey the emotional experience of the music,in accordance with the author’s original intention of expression.The aim of this paper is to provide some guidance and reference value for the performer in the process of understanding,interpreting and playing this masterpiece. |
