Béla Bartók was one of the greatest western composers of the 20 th century,and his Suite op.14 for piano is one of his masterpieces.The work is divided into four movements,each with its own distinctive style and structure,and this paper will explore neo-nationalist music from the point of view of performance technique.The first chapter begins with the background of the work,detailing the author’s life,compositional background and stylistic features,and then,after a theoretical understanding of the work,analyses the combination of nationalistic features and music.The second chapter is divided into four main sections which explore the four movements of the work in detail,looking at melody,harmony,pedal and key touching,and then translating theory into practice and presenting insights into technique.
