In recent years,a number of songs with distinctive city features,like Cheng Du and Xi’an Ren De Ge,became popular on the internet.With their popularity,people began to notice the positive effect that kind of songs had on shaping the local image.As local elements such as local landscapes,folklore and food often found in the lyrics,those songs showed the unique culture and charm of the city from the perspective of native people,which can spread local cultures and shape the image of locality in an unique way.This paper starts with songs with urban features and selects representative songs related to Xi’an since the 21 st century as the research object.Focusing on Xi’an,songs with Xi’an features and the image of Xi’an,this paper discusses the image of Xi’an presented in those songs.In addition,the communication channels and effects of these songs in shaping urban image are also taken into consideration.This paper mainly divided into five parts: Firstly,generalize the urban communication theories and analyze how music as a communication medium shapes the image of cities.Secondly,historically summarize and review the history of the development of Xi’an’s urban folk songs,then conclude the current development and figure out the reasons of their growth.Thirdly,comb out the local elements of Xi’an in the songs through textual analysis,and summarize what image of Xi’an these elements have helped shape.Fourthly,organize and analyze the communication channels and effects of the songs with urban features.Lastly,point out the unique advantages and existing problems of songs in promoting the image of cities,and provide optimization strategies for those problems.This paper expects that songs could play a more active role in spreading the culture and the image of a city in the future.Hopefully make "fall in love with a city for a song" come true.
