| With the going global strategy,many Chinese corporations have targeted the global market.A Chinese company can better promote its products and services by having its press releases translated into English.The Chinese-English translation of press releases involves considerations of linguistic and cultural differences and the readability and receptions of the target texts,which deserves more academic attention.This report is based on a translation project concerning 10 Chinese press releases of Duolun Technology.It focuses on practical translation problems encountered in completing the project and the solutions adopted.This report begins with a description of the translation project,followed by a brief introduction to the research on journalistic translation at home and abroad.The problems that emerged in the project can be classified into two types: those related to linguistic and cultural differences and those concerning the target texts’ readability and reception.Regarding the former type of problems,the translator utilized specialized dictionaries and parallel texts to guarantee terminological accuracy and omitted unnecessary quotations and redundant information to conform to the clear and concise style preferred in the English language.Problems relevant to target texts’ readability and reception were solved by rendering words with Chinese characteristics flexibly,rephrasing sentences,and adding conjunctions and other words to achieve logical flow.This report also discusses some problems met at the stages of self-checking and revising.The translation project showed that the translation of press releases is not just a simple linguistic transfer.It is an intercultural activity,and the translator needs to consider various factors to ensure translation quality when employing specific translation methods and techniques. |
