and acceptance of a large number of contemporary period drama film and television works have fully demonstrated their aesthetic characteristics of mass culture.With the improvement of the overall aesthetic and cognitive level of the society,the artistic presentation of contemporary period dramas is also more in the direction of the creation of suitable for all ages,elegant and popular.In recent years,these contemporary period dramas have withstood the polishing of time,and their realistic creation principles and attitudes have broken the old creative mold,which has been recognized by the creators and audiences.In particular,film and television works and their creators’ understanding of the deep meaning of realism,one is to the social content closely linked to the pulse of The Times,the other is to the perceptual and artistic lens language representation.These two significant turns make the realistic features and creative techniques of contemporary period drama get a new interpretation of The Times,and become an indispensable part of contemporary realistic creation.In recent years,a large number of realistic art works have emerged in the creation of contemporary period dramas.The Great River(2018),The Age of Awakening(2021),The World of Men(2022)and other works have won high praise from the industry and audiences.Contemporary period drama has gradually become a hot spot on the screen,which continues to arouse the attention of the academic circle to its creation.However,at present,there is a lack of systematic theoretical elaboration and relevant academic observation.This paper will take contemporary "period drama" as the main research object,review its overall development process by combing and defining the basic concept of contemporary "period drama",and take such contemporary period dramas as "Fugui"(2006),"Battering the Dog"(2013),"Feather Flies to the Sky"(2015)as the "model",based on the analysis of this type of TV drama works.To explore the realistic aesthetic characteristics of contemporary period drama,in order to overcome the predicament of theoretical lag.The first part clarifies the concept and development process of contemporary period drama.As one of the important types of Chinese TV series,contemporary period dramas from the big era to the minor characters,through the retrospective description of a specific historical period,with the rise and fall of the family and the fate of the characters to show the development and change of historical events.In the first decade of the 21 st century,contemporary period dramas have achieved remarkable development in number,type,elements,narrative and other aspects.In addition,from the perspectives of subject matter,narrative method and characterization,contemporary period dramas have formed a distinct creation mode.The second part examines the realistic tendency of the ideological connotation of contemporary period dramas.This part from the people-oriented spirit idea and personal struggle course of two aspects of research.The humanist spirit of contemporary period dramas is mainly based on adapting realistic works with humanistic care to highlight the humanist spirit.Moreover,on the premise of individual struggle,contemporary period dramas reconstruct the heroic struggle value in the new era,reproduce the struggle spirit of the little people,and show the humanistic care of the creators of contemporary period dramas.The third part studies the realistic characteristics of the constituent elements of contemporary period dramas,taking a large number of excellent contemporary period dramas as samples,respectively from the three aspects of character,plot and background analysis.First of all,the typicality of the characters in contemporary period dramas is reflected in the concrete relationship,showing the real personality,having multiple aspects in the social relationship,and the character modeling with the flavor of The Times.Secondly,the authenticity of the plot is investigated from the background,climax and ending of the period drama.Finally,the authenticity of environmental background is studied from the two aspects of depicting objective real life and demonstrating real environmental background in contemporary period dramas.The fourth part explores the aesthetic value of realism in contemporary period drama.Make clear the significance and values of the contemporary time drama in Chinese TV series as well as the contemporary literary and artistic creations,and start from the communication and influence of the contemporary time drama,and show the role of the contemporary time drama in promoting the mainstream values of society,showing the broad social life and the changes of The Times.In addition,it presents the cinematic beauty of contemporary period dramas in form and shows the creators’ pursuit of beauty in shooting and production.The thesis takes the characteristics of realism aesthetics as the starting point to study the contemporary period drama,and investigates the tendency of realism in the ideological connotation of the contemporary period drama,the realistic characteristics of the constituent elements of the contemporary period drama,and the realistic significance and aesthetic value of the contemporary period drama.The contemporary era drama is always based on realism aesthetics as its creative principle.Creators in the later time will create more excellent works of realism and literature with a sense of The Times,to enhance the appeal of the
