A Report On The C-E Translation Of The History Of Mudanjiang(Excerpt From Chapter Ⅴ)

The History of Mudanjiang is a regional cultural material,which is a book about the history of Mudanjiang edited by Mudanjiang Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.The translation text selected for this translation practice is part of the fifth chapter of the book,“Ningguta Culture”.This text elaborates the history of changes in politics,economy,culture and other aspects of Ningguta in detail which has a strong sense of regional culture and historical significance.This report,based on the translation of the text,delves into the development of various aspects of Ningguta,promotes the cultural characteristics of the Mudanjiang region,and enhances ethnic pride and confidence.Guided by Newmark’s communicative translation theory and semantic translation theory,the translator applies relevant translation methods to solve three major translation difficulties in the text which are cultural loaded words,long sentences,and literary Chinese.In terms of cultural loaded words,the translator adopts literal translation,free translation,transliteration plus annotation;In terms of long sentences,the translator adopts restructuring,omission,and conversion;In the translation of literary Chinese,the translator adopts amplification,synthesis and affirmative translation.The translator hopes this translation practice can provide assistance and reference for translators of the same type of text.
