Translation Report On Culture-loaded Words In A Will Eternal Based On Newmark's Theory

Fantasy novel is a kind of imagined novel based on metaphysics,which gets rid of the limits of space,science and humanity.Fantasy novel translation helps fantasy novel become popular in western countries.It gradually becomes a window of Chinese culture.This report took A Will Eternal of I Eat Tomatoes on Wuxiaworld.com as translation material and analyzes its translation methods from the view of culture.Inspired by Nida's classification of culture,the translator divides the CLWs of A Will Eternal into three kinds: linguistic CLWs,social CLWs and religious CLWs.Then,based on Newmark's communicative theory,the translator adopts liberal translation,Variation translation and recreation to analyze the translation of different CLWs and the proportion of these three translation methods.It shows that communicative translation is suitable to guide the translation of linguistic and social culture-loaded words to increase the fluency and readability of text.At the same time,based on Newmark's sematic translation,the translator adopts word-for-word translation and literal translation to analyze the translation of different CLWs and the proportion of these two translation methods.It concludes that semantic translation is suitable to help the translation of religious culture-loaded words to maintain its taste and connotations.The thesis hopes to provide references for novel culture-loaded words translation and help the export of Chinese literature.
