Abstract/Summary:
Paul Klee,an artist who strives for diversity and perfectness of art in the 20 th century, repeatedly investigates the theme and form closest to the essence and tries to build a bridge for communication between pure visual experience and artistic creation. In the concrete practice and exploration,he skillfully combines the artistic creation ideas with different experiences from all over the world.Among them, traditional Chinese art provides nutrients for the construction of his painting form and theory, combines with western modern consciousness, and enables the artist to generate unique artistic languages and creative thoughts.By studying nature, his paintings constantly explore the interior of the object.Based on the equal integration of himself and the creation,he depicts a free, abstract and moving line to convey the artist’s emotion. In fact, line is an important element, because the line is not only endowed with deep aesthetic features such as subjective emotion, rhythm and connotation but also forms the psychological improvisation method to describe the mindset,so as to realize the liberation of Klee’s characters and achieve the explanation purposes. Therefore, the line has acquired the transcendental dimension in line with the inner spirit of traditional Chinese art.Starting with the lines of Klee’s paintings, this paper explores the aesthetic connotation and the compatibility with traditional Chinese art.The thesis is divided into five parts. The introduction describes the source of the subject, research methods and significances, domestic and foreign research status. The first chapter elaborates Klee’s overall creative idea and ideological connotation from the perspective of his basic thoughts in painting. Then, the second chapter analyzes the uniqueness of line expression from four aspects including structure and rhythm, dimension and balance, energy transformation and movement form expression. The third chapter interprets the aesthetic connotation of the lines, analyzes the basis for the generation of Klee lines as well as the spirituality and imagery contained therein, and tries to seek the similarities between Klee paintings and traditional Chinese art in the expression of natural elements and objects(artists)by giving the subject(lines)emotional and spiritual expression. The fourth chapter explores the ideological connotation of lines in Klee’s paintings on contemporary Chinese art creation and the direction of artistic development,so as to draw conclusions accordingly.
