A Report On Mock Interpreting Of Lei Jun’s Annual Presentation 2022

On August 11,2022,Lei Jun delivered his annual speech titled “Please always believe that beautiful things will soon happen” at the 12th anniversary of Xiaomi.In the 1 hour-long speech,Lei Jun talked about the many setbacks and confusion he experienced in his life and shared his insights on how to get through them.This mock consecutive interpreting report,based on the speech,discusses the application of reformulation strategies in C-E consecutive interpreting through case analysis.The related problems that can be solved by reformulation strategies shown in this impromptu speech are semantic redundancy,logic ambiguity,incomplete sentences,and culture-loaded terms that if interpreted literally can cause confusion to the target language audience.Therefore,under the guidance of the interpretive theory,the interpreter applied four corresponding reformulation strategies,namely compression,explicitation,amplification,and explanation from the perspective of deverbalization to cope with the problems mentioned above.This report exemplifies that the four reformulation strategies the interpreter applied greatly enhanced the effectiveness and quality of this mock C-E consecutive interpreting.This mock consecutive interpreting report is dedicated to finding and solving problems related to the application of reformulation strategies and this mock consecutive interpreting is expected to serve as a reference for other student interpreters when conducting Chinese-English interpreting.
