| Faulkner and Mo Yan are both famous literary masters who are good at writing about their hometowns. They have worked hard for decades on the basis of reality of their hometowns and created two literary kingdoms,Yoknapatawfa County and Gaomi Northeast Township respectively.Their narrative methods broke the shackles of narration in their hometowns and won the spiritual resonance of readers all over the world, occupying an important position in the world literature map.Based on the differences between the two writers’ real hometowns and literary kingdoms, this paper uses the critical method of literary geography, and from the perspective of literary geography, carefully studies Yoknapatawfa’s genealogical novels and Gaomi Northeast Township series novels, trying to clarify the relationship between the local regional novels created by Faulkner and Mo Yan and their hometowns, and how they complete the transcendance of their hometowns in literary works.Through a careful comparison of the literary hometown created by the two writers and the real hometown, the author finds that the reason why Yoknapatapha genealogies and Gaomi Northeast Township series novels can stand the test of time and resonate with readers from different countries, nationalities and languages is that although they write about the hometown as big as a postage stamp,However,in the process of creating the spiritual hometown, they integrate their own thinking of traditional culture and the spirit of The Times, and show the common humanity and emotional experience of human beings in the space of a few inches. On the basis of the real hometown, they create a spiritual hometown of more universal significance, which is enough to become the spiritual refuge for all people. That is to say, only in the height of philosophy, grasp the essence of the human spirit in the field of thought, regional writers can create works beyond the real hometown,so as to complete the transcendence of the hometown. |
