As one of the most basic language skills,writing can reflect learners’ comprehensive language use ability,and is an indispensable part of English learning.However,there are still some problems in continuation task teaching in senior high schools at present.How to promote students’ writing strategies and improve their writing achievement are the focuses of researchers.Founded on the theory of the Interactive Alignment Model(IAM),continuation task was proposed as a new approach to improve students’ writing ability of using English accurately and appropriately.Based on the Interactive Alignment Model,this study aims to improve senior high school students’ writing strategies and writing achievement in continuation task teaching.A two-round action research within 12 weeks was conducted on 40 students from Class 5,Grade 2,of a senior high school in Shenyang,Liaoning province.Questionnaires,interviews and tests were used as instruments to collect data.The descriptive analysis and paired-sample t-tests were used to analyze the data.The study finds that under the guidance of IAM,senior high school students’ English writing strategies have been improved,including conception and organization strategies,linguistic strategies and compensation strategies.And students’ English writing achievement has also been enhanced in ideas(overall understanding of text),organization(reasonable inference),voice(detailed description of psychology,environment and action)and language(rich and accurate grammar and words use).Finally,this thesis puts forward some implications for English continuation task teaching based on the IAM.Firstly,teachers should carry out high-frequency interactive alignment based on the actual students’ situation;secondly,teachers should be student-centered,and more interactive teaching activities should be adopted based on students’ classroom response.Finally,teachers should act as a proper scaffold in the teaching process,so that more students can participate in the process of interactive alignment.
