As an important part of English learning,writing is increasingly valued by teachers and learners.Nevertheless,in the senior high teaching of English writing,some teachers still focus on vocabulary and grammar in the teaching process and pay attention to the explanation of the text.Although this teaching method may to some extent improve students’ ability to take exams,it ignores the cultivation of students’ output.Once students’ writing is not satisfactory,they may gradually lose interest and confidence in English writing.For a long time,cultivating students’ interest in English writing and improving English writing proficiency have been the focus of writing teaching.Wang Chuming(2012)believes that Continuation Task can increase the Alignment,reduce the gap between language input and output,stimulate students’ expression motivation,increase their learning interests,and contribute to the cultivation of their logical and innovative thinking.This study tries applying Continuation Task to high school English writing teaching to scrutinize whether it can improve students’ writing performance and stimulate students’ interest in English writing.The present study answers the following two questions:(1)What changes can the application of Continuation Task bring to the students’ English writing performance?(2)What changes can the application of Continuation Task bring to the students’ attitudes towards English writing?The present study has conducted a 14-week writing teaching experiment to Class Six Grade One and Class Seven Grade One in No.16 of Zhengzhou.The control class is Class Six,and theexperimental class is Class Seven,and there are 50 students in each class.The experimental class takes the Continuation Task teaching method,and the control class takes the traditional teaching method.The experiment lasts for 14 weeks.The data of the present study are collected by pre-test,post-test,questionnaire and interview and analyzed by SPSS.The research results show that:(1)The application of Continuation Task in high school English writing teaching can help middle school students improve their English writing performance.With the application of Continuation Task,students can use advanced vocabulary and write coherent sentences,which makes the passage logical.(2)The Continuation Task in high school English writing teaching can help students increase writing interests and change their attitudes towards English writing learning.With the application of Continuation Task in writing teaching,students become more satisfied with writing courses and more interested in English writing.
