| It is pointed out in General High School English Curriculum Standards that the cultivation of cultural awareness helps students enhance national identity and patriotism,strengthen cultural confidence and form the awareness that human beings have a shared future.Reading teaching plays an important role in English teaching of senior high schools.The combination of cultural awareness cultivation and English reading teaching has been an emerging research trend in recent years.Many researchers have done a lot of research about the necessity of cultural awareness cultivation in English reading teaching and the methods of it.Many teachers have also put it into their teaching practice actively.However,there is not enough investigation data about the current situation of cultural awareness cultivation in English reading teaching of senior high schools.Therefore,this research was conducted by the methods of literature research,questionnaire and interview to explore the following three questions about cultural awareness cultivation in English reading teaching in urban senior high schools in Liaoning Province:(1)What is the current situation of cultural awareness cultivation in English reading teaching in urban senior high schools in Liaoning Province?(2)What are the main factors affecting the effect of cultural awareness cultivation in English reading teaching in urban senior high schools in Liaoning Province?(3)How can the current situation of cultural awareness cultivation in English reading teaching in urban senior high schools in Liaoning Province be improved?It can be concluded that:(1)Certain achievements have been made in cultural awareness cultivation in English reading teaching in urban senior high schools in Liaoning Province,but there still exist some problems at present.Most of the students and teachers have formed certain understanding of cultural awareness.And they hold positive attitudes towards cultural awareness cultivation.In English reading teaching,most teachers can adopt certain teaching methods to cultivate students’ cultural awareness and many students can actively explore cultural learning.However,there are still some students who have not form clear understanding of cultural awareness.They lack cultural awareness.Some English teachers are unequipped in cultural competence and ignore cultural awareness cultivation in reading teaching.Some problems can be found in their teaching,such as insufficient cultural teaching time,monotonous cultural teaching method and so on.(2)The main influencing factors can be divided into two aspects: First,students’ cultural storage and cultural competence,the importance attached to cultural learning by students,cultural learning interest,cultural learning time and the application of cultural knowledge.Second,the importance attached to cultural awareness cultivation by English teachers,cultural teaching time,cultural teaching methods,the use of teaching resources,teachers’ cultural competence,the evaluation of cultural awareness cultivation and teachers’ understanding of cultural awareness.(3)Students should motivate themselves to explore cultural learning in and out of reading class.They should do more cultural exercise,increase their cultural storage and improve their cultural competence.English teachers should study cultural awareness further.They need to adopt various cultural teaching methods and resources,increase cultural teaching time in reading class,assign more extracurricular cultural learning materials and tasks to students,pay attention to cultural differences between China and foreign countries and take effective measures to evaluate cultural awareness regularly.Schools should offer more relevant training and resources to teachers and more colorful cultural activities to students. |
