Mr.Cai Yuanpei was a decision maker and key leader in modern Chinese education.His aesthetic education ideology is a product of the integration of Eastern and Western thought,in which he absorbed and criticized Western aesthetic education ideas represented by Kant,while inheriting the personality and spirit of Confucianism.Aesthetic education is an important component of Mr.Cai Yuanpei education ideology,which is embodied in moral,intellectual,physical,and aesthetic education,with the aim of cultivating talents for national development and promoting social progress through aesthetic education.As an important component of Cai Yuanpei’s educational thought,his aesthetic education concept of cultivating a sound personality still has positive implications for the development of contemporary China.He employed a combination of theory and practice to help us gain a deeper understanding of aesthetic education thought,providing valuable experience and inspiration for education in various higher education institutions.Today,perfecting the higher education aesthetic education system based on Cai Yuanpei’s aesthetic education thought is an indispensable part of educational reform and development.Since the 18 th National Congress of the Communist Party of China,the important role of aesthetic education in universities has been continuously highlighted,and the inner spiritual needs of university students have also grown,leading to a strong demand for aesthetic education.Based on these developments,this paper discusses the significance and role of the aesthetic education ideas of Cai Yuanpei in contemporary university aesthetic education from four aspects.The first part outlines the historical background of Cai Yuanpei’s aesthetic education ideas and establishes a theoretical basis for the development of university aesthetic education,based on both the current research status of Cai Yuanpei’s aesthetic education ideas and current educational policies.The second part conducts a comprehensive analysis of the historical background,development process,and essential features of Cai Yuanpei’s aesthetic education ideas and discusses the contemporary social value of aesthetic education.The third part systematically analyzes and integrates the problems that currently exist in university aesthetic education through a survey questionnaire and carries out a feasibility analysis based on the identified issues.Finally,the fourth part analyzes the practical significance of Cai Yuanpei’s aesthetic education ideas in improving university aesthetic education from three levels: optimizing aesthetic education goals,enriching and improving aesthetic education content and methods,and improving the ideological concepts of university aesthetic education.Cai Yuanpei’s aesthetic education ideas are primarily reflected in university aesthetic education.Therefore,this paper takes a deep dive into the rich connotation of Cai Yuanpei’s aesthetic education ideas from the perspective of university aesthetic education to enable aesthetic education to play an important role in university teaching and education.In recent years,China has put forward a series of policies and guidelines for the development of aesthetic education,constantly strengthening and improving aesthetic education,and implementing it in practice.The mechanism of aesthetic education in universities has been continuously improved,aesthetic education resources have been deeply integrated,and a new pattern of aesthetic education in universities has been promoted.However,there are still many shortcomings in cultivating students’ aesthetic literacy and ability in the current aesthetic education work in universities.Therefore,we need to further explore Cai Yuanpei’s aesthetic education thoughts to enhance the depth of aesthetic education in universities and broaden the height and breadth of students’ aesthetic education.At the same time,a series of useful inspirations should be provided for the improvement,perfection,and upgrading of aesthetic education work in universities.This is also the starting point for the article’s research,which aims to view and respond to the issue with a developmental and systematic perspective.
