Exploring The Sound Design Of Contemporary

Electronic percussion,which utilizes electronic technology to generate and modify the timbre or instruments of percussion music,has been widely used in contemporary music creation,especially in Western rap music,where its usage proportion even surpasses traditional percussion.This study aims to explore the application of electronic percussion in music composition and timbre design,with a particular focus on its manifestation in Western rap music.Despite the widespread use of electronic percussion,there is a scarcity of academic literature on its timbre design.However,many producers have introduced non-academic timbre design course materials,which,although more inclined towards sharing production experience and habits,still provide some reference value for this study.To focus on electronic percussion timbre design,this paper first outlines and defines the concept of electronic percussion,analyzes the differences with traditional real percussion,and provides an overview of its application.Next,using the research method of timbre reconstruction,the paper delves into the timbre design of electronic percussion.Subsequently,representative works in Western rap music,"Bad Guy","Old Town Road",and "7 Rings",are selected to analyze their performance in terms of instrumentation,timbre design features,and arrangement features,as well as the commonalities and differences among the three works.Through the analysis of electronic percussion timbre design,we find that sampling design has high fidelity timbre attributes and a fast production process,while electronic synthesis offers greater creativity and timbre plasticity.Additionally,through the timbre reconstruction experiment of the classic drum machine TR-808,we verify the high plasticity of electronic percussion and find that the snare and bass drum timbres generated by sine waves are pure,with strong low-frequency,making them suitable for rhythmically intense music.Finally,by analyzing the three representative songs,we reveal the stylistic features of electronic percussion in trap style and Western rap music,as well as personalized timbre design methods and rich production techniques.After an in-depth exploration,the author will summarize the implications of electronic percussion on music production,the extension of trap-style electronic percussion to other styles,and its significance for domestic music.Electronic percussion has become an indispensable element in music creation,providing a wealth of possibilities for the diversification and innovation of musical styles.
