Charles Francois Gounod(1818-1893)was a famous composer of the French Romantic period.He composed mainly opera and religious music.His works include the lyric opera Faust,Romeo and Juliet,as well as art songs and masses,oratorios and requiems.In the second half of the 19 th century,the peak of French opera was marked by the operas of Gounod and Bizet,whose opera Faust influenced the development of French opera in the future.The opera "Romeo and Juliet" is a classic opera in which some original elements of Gounod are added on the basis of retaining the splendid chapters of the original and taking Shakespeare’s tragedy as the model,which makes the musical characters in the play more rich in image.The article mainly focuses on Juliet’s two arias "I would live in a beautiful dream" and "Love reawakens my courage",with the musical characteristics and singing analysis of Juliet’s two arias as the focus.From the lyrics,harmony,tune style,composer’s creative style characteristics and other aspects of in-depth study,in the strong dramatic conflict of the plot,Juliette from ignorant girl to the dramatic image of dedication to love,with poetic lyrical language,delicate psychological portrayal of the character musical image and artistic characteristics of analysis,so as to have a more accurate grasp of the singing style and skills of Juliette’s arias,such as in these two The different rhythms,tempos,and shifts in tone of the characters are shown in these two arias.Through the analysis of the image and musical characteristics of Juliet in Shakespeare’s and Gounod’s works,and according to their own singing strength and in-depth understanding of the works,the singers can more accurately grasp the essence of the character and present the ideas and operatic effects that the composer wants to express precisely.
