A Report On The Interpreting Of A Business Talk Of Products Purchasing

The report focuses on the practice of consecutive interpretation in a business talk conducted by the interpreter in Yangjiang city,Guangdong Province on Sep 5,2022.In the business talk,one party is the purchasing operator “Dimas” from a cross-border e-commerce enterprise in Foshan city,the other is the supplier “Mr.Lai” from a kitchenware factory in Yangjiang city.The two parties discussed the old and new products,including style,quotation,labeling,packaging,delivery and other issues.The talk lasts for more than one and a half hours.The talk has full content,clear logic and rich kitchenware knowledge.This report contains five chapters,which includes task description,process description,theoretical framework,case analysis and conclusion.Chapter One introduces the background,features and requirements of the interpreting task.Chapter Two describes the pre-interpreting preparation,the interpreting process and the feedback from clients and self-review of the interpreting performance.Chapter Three introduces the development of Skopos theory and its three core rules and its application in business interpreting.Chapter Four,under the guidance of Skopos theory,selects some interpretation examples for analysis and studies the factors influencing the interpreter’s performance on switching source language into target language during the process.According to the three principles of Skopos theory,the interpreter analyzes the difficulties encountered in the interpreting,including speaker’s logic confusion,redundant information,misunderstanding caused by cultural differences,unfamiliarity of accents.On this basis,the report discusses the translation strategies and methods for dealing with those difficult problems,such as reorganization,omission,free translation and reasonable anticipation.The last chapter summarizes what the interpreter has encountered during the process and what relevant strategies the interpreter has adopted.The interpreting task provides the interpreter with a good opportunity to accumulate experience,so that she can realize the deficiency of her own interpreting ability.During the process of interpreting,the interpreter can consciously use strategies guided by the Skopos theory and therefore better understand the application of interpreting methods.
