A Study Of Cultural Factors In The Chinese Textbook Asiatic Language Collection During The Meiji Restoration In Japan

The Asiatic Language Collection is a Chinese textbook in the Meiji period of Japan.The content of the book is mainly based on the daily dialogues of the old Beijingers.The content is comprehensive and covers a variety of dialogues.For example,"travel,trade,hospitality,study and work,etc." The purpose of the compilation of the Asiatic Language Collection is to help Japanese learners coming to China learn Chinese and integrate into Beijing life.Therefore,there are a lot of social and cultural phenomena in the textbooks at that time.However,in the past,most of the research on The Asiatic Language Collection focused on the language of the teaching materials and the compiling style of the teaching materials,and less on the social and cultural phenomena of the teaching materials.From the perspective of social culture,this paper studies the cultural factors in The Asiatic Language Collection,which,to a certain extent,also enriches the research perspective of the textbook,and can also provide cultural reference for other Chinese learning textbooks during the Meiji Restoration in Japan.The paper is divided into five parts.The first part is the reason for choosing the topic and the significance of the research,the research status at home and abroad,research theory,research methods and research objects.The second chapter introduces the compilation of textbooks in Beijing,the editors and the compilation style.The third chapter starts with the study of cultural items in the textbooks,briefly describes three different classification tables of cultural items,and the reasons for determining the statistics of cultural items based on Mr.Zhou Xiaobing’s New Cultural Items Table.Furthermore,it explains the statistical methods of cultural items,and finally makes statistics of cultural items of teaching materials.The fourth chapter mainly analyzes the cultural items in The Asiatic Language Collection from the perspectives of China’s national conditions,daily life,communication activities and ideas.The fifth chapter discusses the characteristics of the selection and compilation of cultural factors.The characteristics of the selection and compilation of Asiatic Speech Anthology in terms of cultural factors mainly include the principles of strong practicality,strong comprehensiveness,gradual progress and reasonable display methods.At the same time,there are also some shortcomings,such as the lack of cohesion in the front and back content,the lack of language standardization,strong class consciousness,etc.Finally,according to the characteristics of the cultural factors in the compilation of The Asiatic Language Collection,some suggestions are made for the current Chinese learning textbooks.The sixth chapter is the conclusion part,which is the summary and reflection of this article,and the prospect of the related Chinese textbooks such as "The Asiatic Language Collection".
