With the advancement of globalization,there is a growing need for non-native English speakers to be proficient in the four basic skills of using English,which is“listening,speaking,reading and writing”.Among the four basic language skills,listening,as an understanding skill,is very important in the learning process of English learners.It is an important means to absorb linguistic knowledge,and is the basis of language learning.It provides language input for learners.Therefore,listening has been the focus of teachers and students.However,many high school teachers find that the traditional listening training method has little and slow effect on improving students’ listening ability.Teachers lack efficient listening training methods.The English listening test,as an important part of the college entrance examination,has a great washback effect on English teaching and learning in senior high school.Inspired by this,the author intends to make use of the positive washback effects of English listening test in college entrance examination,and based on frame semantics,designs an English listening training method called “backward reasoning” That is,teachers train students to see from the perspective of making the test questions,guess the key scene vocabulary in question sentences or listening material according to the correct choice,so as to reach the aim of training students’ frame thinking.It is hoped that it can effectively provide classroom training methods for high school students’ English listening skill,make up for the shortage of traditional teaching method,enrich the research of English listening teaching,and provide a certain theoretical basis for English listening teaching in high school.In addition,the English listening teaching method based on frame semantics aims to help students build and integrate frame background.Through the construction and richness of frame background,students can respond to other relevant information or knowledge about the frame as some elements of the frame change and make students more effective and confident in English listening.At the same time,it can improve classroom efficiency,enrich teaching methods and improve teaching effects,expand educators’ teaching reform and innovation ideas,and provide certain reference for educator of high school English listening teaching.This study was conducted from September 2020 to January 2021 to verify the effectiveness of the “backward reasoning” training method in English listening teaching.The research methods included experimental method,questionnaire method and case interview method,and mainly studied the following questions: 1.Can “backward reasoning” training method effectively improve high school students’ English listening performance? 2.Can “backward reasoning” training method effectively improve high school students’ listening learning attitude? 3.Can “backward reasoning” training method become a better classroom training method,so that students can not only cope with the college entrance examination English listening test,but also get listening skills training?In this study,a comparative experiment was conducted between two classes with similar English scores.The object of study was all the students in Grade one and grade one of a high school in Guizhou Province.Based on the original subjects of college entrance examination,the author integrated the pre-test and post-test of English listening to test the students’ English listening ability before and after the experiment.In addition,in order to further understand the influence of “backward reasoning” training method on students’ English listening learning motivation,interest and objective,as well as students acceptance of “backward reasoning” training method,the author drew on previous experience to compile and produce a questionnaire on English listening learning,which was distributed to all students in the classes of the two subjects.Based on positive and negative backwash effect,framework theory,teaching practice in the experiment,the test results analysis,the questionnaire result analysis and interview in experimental classes,the author chose typical cases and conducted interview to understand students’ subjective feeling to “backward reasoning” training method,in order to analyze the practical effect of this method.It is found that the English listening ability of the experiment class has been significantly improved,which indicates that the “backward reasoning” training method inspired by the backwash effect can effectively improve the English listening ability of high school students.In addition,the effect of “backward reasoning” training method is also reflected in the following aspects: 1.Strengthening students’ learning motivation,stimulating students’ English listening behavior;2.Improve students’ interest in English listening learning,and promote students to complete the learning task easily.For the“learning objective” dimensions among the three dimensions in the questionnaire,no obvious increase has been seen.After the “backward reasoning” training,students still have unclear learning objectives,which means that the “backward reasoning” training method fail to solve the existing problems in the learning objectives while effectively improve students’ English listening ability,learning motivation and interests.The author designed this method to provide a new idea for English listening training.However,it is not mature and perfect enough,and still needs further practice and research.
