From the perspective of Interactive Linguistics,this study adopts the methods of conversation analysis,quantitative and qualitative analysis,through the Informal Talks to investigate the use of modal particles in second language learners.Then a case study of "le",which is the most frequently used by second language learners,to investigate its functions in form coherence and interpersonal interaction.On this basis,the present situation of modal particles teaching is further investigated.According to the existing problems of modal particles teaching,suggestions and teaching design are put forward.In the investigation of the use of modal particles by second language learners,the frequency of the use of modal particles by native speakers and second language learners are firstly analyzed.The result shows that,consistent with native speakers,the most frequently used modal particles by second language learners is "le".Then,the interactive functions of modal particles are investigated.From the perspective of discourse organization form,modal particles have the functions of confirmation information,turn organization and discourse organization;from the point of view of propositional form,modal particles have the functions of seeking identification and verification;from the perspective of discourse cohesion,modal particles have the function of discourse modification.In addition,it also have the interpersonal functions of conveying speech intention and expressing position.Through the case analysis of the use of "le",it is found that "le" has the functions of maintaining the turn,responding to the turn and giving up the turn in terms of form coherence function.From the perspective of interpersonal function,"le" has the functions of separating attitude marking and position.It is also found that when a second language learner use "le",its communicative motivations include contextual adaptation,pragmatic solidification and information flow promotion.Through the investigation of the errors in the use of modal particles in the interactive communication of the second language speakers,it is found that the errors mainly include:confusion of verification function,misuse of discourse organization function,and wrong addition of modal particles.It provides a reference for the interactive function teaching of modal particles.This study explores the use of modal particles by second language learners from an interactive perspective,which can not only help us understand the interactive functions of modal particles,but also provide new ideas for second language teaching.
