| According to the English-Chinese translation practice of the section 1 to section 7 of the chapter 4 of Employment Law(the fourth edition),an American University law textbook,the author completed this translation project report.The chosen source text mainly introduces some relevant legal provisions which forbid the employers from discriminating the employees in employment in the USA,including amendments,acts,federal constitutions and local laws and legislation.The key part is which employment discrimination is under the jurisdiction of Title VII and ADEA and how to defend and get remedies in accordance with these two acts.The employment is the basis of people’s livelihood and exerts great influence on the fulfillment of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.The reason why the author chose the chapter is that she is committed to pushing forward China’s enactment process of anti-employment discrimination law through learning American relevant legal provisions.During the process of enacting anti-employment law,we might learn from the other countries’ advanced legislative experience,in addition to national condition.To learn from the other countries’ advanced legislative experience,we must read plenty of foreign legal texts with the help of superb translation skills.The legal text translation is different from other text translation,here the author chooses the six practical principles of legal translation from Doctor Li Kexing of the Translation Research Center of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University,especially the first five,together with some translation strategies and methods like foreignization,literal translation,inversion and conversion,to complete the translation and the report from the points of vocabulary,sentence and discourse.Because the main idea of the text is about ban or prohibition of discrimination,another point--prohibition sentence is added.Through the completion of this report,the author has a more profound understanding of legal translation.At the same time,the author hopes that can provide some experience and help for the legal English learners,as well as certain thinking and clue for those who want to know about the employment discrimination in the Employment Law of the USA. |
