In peaceful times, the police force is the group that sacrificed the most.As an important chapter of Chinese stories, police stories have always been favored by TV dramas and movies.Documentary,as the "fourth carriage",is characterized by recording the truth, which makes it an excellent carrier for telling police stories well.Since the "Sword of China" broadcast by CCTV in 1995,to this day, police documentaries have gone through more than 20 years, and with the changes in the social and historical context, their narratives have also changed. This thesis mainly takes narratology as the theoretical framework, uses text analysis, case study and comparative analysis to carry out research around three research purposes:First,to sort out the overall development of Chinese police documentaries;Second,to analyze the changes in the narrative of police-themed documentaries over the past two decades;the third is to examine the structural forces behind the evolution of police-themed documentaries based on the social and historical context. This research consists of five chapters, the first chapter is the introduction. The second chapter sorts out the development of Chinese police documentaries in the past 20 years. The third and fourth chapters,as the main part of the research, analyzing the evolution of police documentaries from two levels of narrative discourse. The third chapter analyzes the changes of events, characters, narrative structure and narrative theme in the narrative story level, and finds that the narrative story mainly analyzes the narrative perspective and narrative symbols at the narrative discourse level in the fourth chapter. The changes in the narrative perspective of police documentaries show a decrease in the "omniscient perspective" and an increase in the "internal perspective",and gradually realize the turn of the civilian perspective;narrative symbols include sound symbols and picture symbols, and the changes are mainly from the beginning of sound and picture. There is a lack of diversification and variety of audio-visual means.Through the third and fourth chapters,we can see that over the past two decades,police-themed documentaries have been gradually optimized and improved in terms of narrative content and techniques.Chapter 5 examines the evolution of the narrative of police-themed documentaries in my country in the context of social history, and finds that its evolution is influenced by social development, media patterns,TV discourse patterns, and audiences, and these reasons are intertwined. The net includes the trajectory of the evolution of the documentary narrative. The conclusion part of this research mainly includes three aspects, one is the author’s summary of the research, the other is the reflection on the shortcomings of this research, and the third is the follow-up prospect of the research related to the narrative of police documentaries.
