Report On Simulated C-E Simultaneous Interpretation Of The Great Life Of Confucius

The Great Life of Confucius is a cultural lecture given by young scholar Xing Zhefu at the beginning of 2019.The first half of the lecture is selected as the material for this report.The historical events,historical figures and names as well as allusions,idioms and common sayings are prominent difficulties in the interpretation practice.Following systemic analysis on difficulties,coupled with three principles of Skopos theory,the difficulties are tackled respectively.The difficulties are mainly in micro culturemes and they can be highlighted as follows:(1)lexical culturemes: specific nouns of the time of Confucius,and nouns with Chinese characteristics;(2)phrasal culturemes: four-character phrases and idioms;(3)syntactic culturemes: common sayings and sentences that are filled with culturemes.These difficulties compromises the fluency as well as the accuracy of the interpretation.Accordingly,the author adopts Skopos theory.Skopos theory was proposed by Vermeer in his book A Framework for General Translation Theory published in 1978.The theory consists of three major principles: Skopos principle,coherence principle and fidelity principle.Under the guidance of Skopos theory,the author adopts the following tactics:(1)lexical culturemes: paraphrasing,omission and transliteration and amplification;(2)phrasal culturemes: paraphrasing and omission;(3)syntactic culturemes:simplification and explanation and omission.The difficulties in the task and the coping tactics help the reporter have a better understanding of interpreting micro culturemes in lectures on Chinese culture,improve his interpretation ability and provide some experience for future interpretation.
