| Foreign brand of passenger car has stepped up in heavy-duty truck field with lavished investment as the market of China is expanding vigorously.With bringing advanced management and complex technology in China,an increasing number of foreign experts and resources are involving in vehicle design and development projects launched in domestic enterprises.China has enjoyed the remarkable internalization in recent years.When Ford introducing well-known engine technology and platform of heavy-duty truck for Chinese vehicle manufacturer,a massive project documents are required to be translated into Chinese in terms of spoken and written form.Other than that regular technical meeting and senior management meeting for making decision as well as document sign-off both need Chinese and English version.International communication and globalization activity accelerate technical translation demand of vehicle design and development project.Therefore,the translator of vehicle design project is expected to deliver high-quality and appropriate targeted translation.According to the translation project of Ford heavy-duty truck development accomplished by the author and theory-based guidance of translation shift created by J.C Catford,this report deals with the translation of Ford heavy-duty truck development project over technique related from level shift and grammar shift under various translation strategies aspects and actual experience.This translation practice project is the translation work completed by the author on the report of the R&D process issued by the company during the period of being a technical translator in the localization of Ford commercial vehicle R&D project.It aims at documenting the entire process of the localization strategy deployment and implementation of Ford products,as well as the company’s vehicle R&D,styling elaborating and supplier technology exchange activities.The adapted translation strategies are explored in the process of translating fixed text types based on the Text Type Theory of Peter Newmark.Besides,the source text is compiled by automobile R&D engineers,and there are numerous terminology terms in it,so some problems including semantic ambiguity or lack of logic are often recognized.The author analyzes how to convey the message of source text flexibly in the target language under the guidance of Translation Shift Theory of Catford.Meanwhile,some experience and relevant shortcomings are summarized to provide a reference for translators in the vehicle technology industry. |
