With the change of energy and environment,and the traditional vehicles’ inherent requirements,the future will witness the development of electric automobile.As domestic electric vehicles continue to move towards the international market,the importance of automotive text translation has increased significantly.This translation text is The Maintenance Manual of X Electric Vehicle.As an informative scientific text,the language of this manual is accurate and objective.This report selects the maintenance part from this manual for C-E translation,and analyzes the examples in the translation process.At the meanwhile,considering the characteristics of this kind of texts,the translator chose Catford’s theory to guide this practice.Translation shifts theory is divided into level shifts and category shifts,among which category shifts is divided into four aspects: structural shifts,category shifts,unit shifts and internal system shifts.At level shifts,realizing the conversion of word form and tense;at structure shifts,adjusting the sentence structure according to the difference between Chinese and English languages;at category shifts,performing the part of speech conversion according to the different characteristics of the vocabulary;at unit shifts,in the sentence the five types of units are converted into each other.There are four chapters in this report.At the first chapter,it briefly discusses the translation task,which includes the background,purpose of the project and the textual features of the material.Then at the second chapter,it makes an explaining to the translation process,which includes the pre-translation parallel text,translation tools and glossary preparation,mid-translation and post-translation review.At the third chapter,it introduces the basic content of translation shifts theory and the specific application in translation examples.And at the last chapter,it summarizes this report,which includes findings and limitations.On the one hand,the translation of the electric vehicle maintenance manual can provide technical guidance for overseas users who purchase this vehicle;on the other hand,the author wishes this report can play a reference role for the translation of the same type text.
