| The author undertook the translation task of Regulations of Shanghai Municipality on Drainage and Sewage Treatment and Regulations of Shanghai Municipality on Regional Financial Supervision and Administration in April and May2020,and collected four versions of translation respectively afterwards.In this Report,the author sorts and analyzes translation problems and deficiencies,and provides some experience.Problems and deficiencies enumerated in the Report fall into three aspects: 1)Comprehension in terms of contradictions between the author’s understanding and the intended meaning of source texts of lexis,structure,and logic.2)Expression regarding faithful expression of the original message,consistent format,proper usage of modal verbs,adjustment of word order,translation of fixed expressions,and avoidance of Chinglish.3)Adaptation by simplification,supplement,and omission.In addition to this translation process,the author applies principles of legal translation(accuracy/precision;consistency/identity;clarity/concision;and professionalism/standardization)and theories of translation standardization(expectancy norms and professional norms)when dealing with difficulties in translation.She summarizes translation strategies involved in the hope of being helpful to the translation of legislative texts of similar type. |
