This is an English-Chinese translation report on Exercised: Why Something We Never Evolved to Do Is Healthy and Rewarding(Chapters Three-Four),written by Daniel E.Lieberman,a Professor of Human Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University. The book popularizes the knowledge of human health, elaborates on human activities such as running, sitting, and sleeping, discusses the effects of various human activities on human body from an evolutionary perspective, and puts forward some practical suggestions based on research phenomena and findings.Chapter 3 discusses the risks and diseases caused by sedentary behavior, and discusses the reasons why humans prefer to sit rather than stand up from an evolutionary perspective.Chapter 4 deals with the effects of stress on sleep, the changes that occur in the human body during a complete sleep cycle, the dangers of sleep deprivation and the related diseases that may be caused. With the progress of technology and the development of economy, breakthroughs have been made in many fields, and people’s living standards have been greatly improved,so they become more concerned about their own health. The translation of this book aims to help Chinese readers form a correct understanding of exercise and break the myths about exercise, then catering to the modern human demand for health knowledge. And so far, there has been no Chinese version concerning the original text.On the basis of the mentioned above, this translation from English to Chinese has a profound practical significance and translation value by itself.Under the guidance of “comprehension, expression, and adaptation”(CEA)framework, proposed by Professor Li Changshuan, the translator conducted an in-depth analysis of difficulties encountered in the translation process. At the comprehension level, based on case analysis, the translator found out causes of misunderstanding, including lack of professional knowledge and misunderstanding of sentence structure. At the expression level, translationese and lack of cohesion were problems. At the adaption level, the translator discussed how to improve the translation task with translation methods of amplification and inversion.Through this translation practice, the translator has accumulated lots of professional knowledge and further improved English-Chinese translation ability of popular science texts. It is expected that this translation report can provide reference and some translation experience for texts of the same type.
