Chinese monosyllabic polysemy has always been a difficulty in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, and word confusion is a common problem for second language learners. In previous studies on confusing words, most of the subjects are easy to confuse words from a single mother tongue background. This paper attempts to conduct an in-depth study of easy to confuse words from learners with different mother tongue backgrounds from the perspective of multilingual comparison, and compare and analyze the same and different confusions of monosyllabic polysemous verbs in English and South Korean.First of all, based on the ’ grade standard ’,this paper selects four-level monosyllabic verbs. At the same time, combined with two reference books of ’ modern Chinese classification dictionary ’ and ’ synonym Lin ’,40 four-level monosyllabic polysemous verbs are preliminarily determined.Secondly, through the one-by-one screening of large-scale interlanguage corpus,21 monosyllabic polysemous verbs of commonly used by English and Korean bilinguals are further identified and used as the target words in this study. The study found that in the corpus of English and Korean speakers using monosyllabic polysemous verbs of Band 4,9 words and 6 words of 21 target words had confusion errors. This paper compares and examines the confusion performance of Chinese monosyllabic polysemy verbs in English and South Korean.According to the language examples of English and South Korean native speakers,we first examine the confusion performance of English and South Korean monosyllabic polysemy verbs in four levels from three aspects : confusion headings, lexical relations and confusion directions, and then compare and analyze the same performance and different confusion performance of the two.Common confusion of words : ’打’,’归’,’含’,’列’ are the four target words that are confused by English and Korean speakers. There are two pairs of same confusion words in their mistakes, namely ’打-做’ and ’含-带’,which not only have the same direction of misuse, but also have the same meaning of the words;in terms of interword relationship, the inter-word relationship of English and Korean when they confuse the word ’ da ’ is one-to-many confusion, and when they confuse the word ’gui ’ is one-to-one confusion;in the misuse direction, the misuse directions of ’打’ and’含’ are unidirectional.Different lexical confusions are manifested in the following aspects. In terms of the confusing entries, there are five monosyllabic polysemous verbs that are confused by English speakers and not confused by Korean speakers, and eight pairs of confusing words are generated. There are two monosyllabic polysemous verbs with four levels that are confused by Korean speakers and not confused by English speakers, and there are two pairs of confusing words. In terms of inter-word relations,English speakers have one-to-many confusions when using ’含’ and ’列’,while Korean speakers have one-to-one confusions when using them.In the direction of misuse,English speakers confuse the word ’打’ with one-way misuse, while Korean speakers confuse the word with one-way misuse and two-way misuse.Based on the interlanguage corpus, this paper makes a comparative study of the confusion of monosyllabic polysemous verbs in English and South Korean. Our investigation shows that both English and Korean native speakers have similarities and differences in the learning of monosyllabic polysemous verbs. The conclusion of this study is expected to provide reference for vocabulary teaching of Chinese as a foreign language,Chinese learning dictionaries and textbook compilation.
