| In English for science and technology, though logical coherence and clarity are given priority, there are also some implicit logical relations and vagueness. This requires the translator to clarify on the basis of accurate understanding of the source text,so as to accurately convey scientific and technological information and achieve equivalence to the source text.Based on Shipbuilding Management(Springer,2021),this practice report studies the issue of explicitation in the Chinese translation of English for Science and Technology by analyzing examples of scientific English translation. From the three aspects of obligatory explicitation, optional explicitation and pragmatic explicitation, this report analyzes the examples of EST translation, discusses the role of translation explicitation in the process of Chinese translation, and puts forward common explicitation strategies and methods.Obligatory explicitation is achived by semantic explicitation and grammatical explicitation.Optional explicitation is facilitated by manifesting logical relations and reorganizing sentence segments.Pragmatic explicitation is realized by displaying the cultural information and contextual information. The findings show that translation explicitation is an indispensable means and method in the process of Chinese translation. In order to improve the readability of the target text, the translator needs to carry out explicit processing of the target text on the basis of analyzing the logical relations of the original text and clarifying the relations between grammatical elements,so as to ensure the accuracy and fluency of the target text. |
