The implementation of the rural revitalization strategy cannot be separated from the revitalization of rural education.The rural revitalization strategy and rural education revitalization provide an important opportunity for the professional development of English teachers in rural elementary schools.In addition,the promulgation and implementation of the English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)have put forward newer and higher requirements for English teachers in rural elementary schools.Theoretical and practical studies on teachers’ professional development have been conducted in depth at home and abroad,but there is a significant lack of research on the professional development of English teachers in rural elementary schools.Based on the conceptual framework of " Teacher Professional Development 3.0" and socio-cultural theory,this study selects 756 elementary school English teachers in Changde prefecture as the subjects of the survey against the background of the rural revitalization strategy to understand the current situation of professional development of English teachers in rural elementary schools in Changde prefecture.The study found that(1)there are still some problems regarding the professional development of English teachers in rural elementary schools in Changde prefecture.There are both external and internal factors which need to be considered seriously.(2)The gender ratio of English teachers in rural elementary schools is seriously imbalanced and the teacher allocation is unreasonable.(3)The number and quality of subject leaders and school-level backbone teachers are insufficient.(4)For rural elementary English teachers,there are relatively insufficient opportunities for study visits and training.(5)The teaching research ability of English teachers in rural elementary schools is relatively weak.(6)For English teachers in rural elementary schools,there is a relative lack of teaching resources and teaching strategies.In view of the main problems in the professional development of English teachers in rural elementary schools,this paper proposes the following strategies to promote the professional development of English teachers in rural elementary schools:(1)Creating good environments facilitating the professional development of English teachers in rural elementary schools.(3)Improving the professional training mode of English teachers in rural elementary schools. |
