A Study On Monosyllabic Homonyms In Modern Chinese Dictionary (7^th Edition)

The processing of homonyms is an important work in dictionary compilation.This paper takes monosyllabic homonyms in Modern Chinese Dictionary(7^thedition)as the research object and content,analyzes whether monosyllabic homonyms are properly dealt with in Modern Chinese Dictionary.On the premise of extensively collecting corpus and strictly adhering to the standard of word meaning,the paper uses various methods to correct the misjudged monosyllabic homonyms,and puts forward the reference suggestion for some specific choreography problems.The author hopes to put forward the phenomenon and problem of the unreasonable separation and combination of headings in dictionary compilation which can attract the attention of lexicographers and readers.Firstly,through the method of econometrics and statistics,this paper makes an exhaustive collection of Modern Chinese Dictionary,counts 680 groups of monosyllabic homonyms,and describes these monosyllabic words in synchronic classification.These words are compared with the monosyllabic homonyms（a total of558 groups of monosyllabic homonyms are counted）in Modern Chinese Standard Dictionary(3^rdEdition),and the differences between the two dictionaries are statistically and chronically described;This paper investigates and analyzes the different items,and further discusses the rationality and mistakes of monosyllabic word division and combination in Modern Chinese Dictionary.Secondly,this paper makes a comprehensive and systematic study of the meanings of monosyllabic homonyms in Modern Chinese Dictionary.According to the results of the comparative analysis between the two dictionaries,this paper makes a diachronic textual research and analysis on the meaning of these monosyllabic words and combs the word meaning,and sorts out 75 groups of monosyllabic words that the author believes are misjudged in Modern Chinese Dictionary.It also adopts to the methods of extracting the common sememes,summarizing the core meanings,combing extended semantic columns,textual research on etymological meaning and comparing relevant words to reasonably correct the misjudged monosyllabic homonyms and polysemy in Modern Chinese Dictionary.In the form of case detailed analysis and overall brief overview,this paper makes a judgment and evaluation on these 75 groups of monosyllabic words,including 6 groups of commonly used representative monosyllabic words（"白","错","生","轩","挣"and"装"）are very detailed word meanings,which can be sorted out diachronically,and then analyzes the causes of misjudgment.Finally,the author tries to summarize the previous experience,further discusses the judgment standards and methods of monosyllabic homonyms on the basis of absorbing the research results of predecessors,and puts forward reasonable suggestions for the problems of monosyllabic homonyms in dictionaries.The investigation and research of monosyllabic homonyms in Modern Chinese Dictionary can not only enrich the research of homonyms and improve our understanding of the regularity of Chinese vocabulary system,but also provide some useful help for the compilation and revision of modern Chinese dictionary,and lay a good foundation for Chinese dictionaries to reasonably distinguish homonyms and polysemy.
