Research On The Current Situation And Strategies Of Thematic Reading Teaching In Primary School English Based On Subject Core Literacy

Abstract/Summary:
At present,it is advocated to cultivate students’ core literacy of English subject in the basic foreign language education.English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2022 Edition)takes "developing core literacy" as the overall goal of the curriculum,defines the scope of English curriculum topics in terms of teaching methods,and briefly expounds the functions and importance of the topics.Theme-based reading teaching based on subject core literacy can effectively integrate language knowledge into reading tasks and reading problems.At the same time,based on the real life of primary school students,the corresponding theme content is proposed for independent exploration,so as to encourage students to learn English reading in a vivid and real language communication situation.Thematic reading teaching can stimulate students’ interest in English reading,improve students’ enthusiasm and initiative to participate in all aspects of reading teaching,and promote the formation of English reading literacy.In this thesis English teachers and students in senior grades of M Primary School in Nanning were investigated.Based on students’ English reading level and teachers’ teaching status,the present situation and main problems of thematic reading teaching based on core literacy of English subjects were analyzed.At the same time,based on the practice of primary school English teaching,this study puts forward targeted strategies and suggestions.According to Krashen’s second language acquisition theory and the whole language teaching theory,this research is carried out based on the following questions through literature research,questionnaire survey,classroom observation and interview methods:(1)What is the status quo of thematic reading teaching in primary school English?(2)What are the main problems existing in thematic reading teaching in primary school English at present?(3)What are the causes of the problem?(4)How to propose thematic reading teaching strategies for primary school English based on core literacy of English subjects in view of the main problems?Through sorting out and analyzing the outline of student questionnaires and teacher interviews,this study takes core literacy of English subjects as a research perspective,and summarizes the main problems existing in thematic reading teaching of primary school English as follows:(1)insufficient grasp and guidance of thematic understanding;(2)The integrity of text reading is not high;(3)The difficulty of problem setting is uncertain;(4)The awareness and ability to use reading material flexibly need to be improved.In addition,it is also found that the teachers themselves lack of understanding of the cultural customs of Western countries,leading to the current stage of M primary school to carry out thematic English reading teaching effect is not ideal.Among them,there are some difficulties in reading teaching concept,process and method.Therefore,the author makes an in-depth analysis of the causes of the problems,and summarizes them as follows: the low professional quality of teachers,the lack of thematic reading materials,and the limitations of practical teaching.Based on the analysis of the causes of the main problems,the author puts forward improvement strategies from four aspects:(1)Update the teaching concept of reading,improve the level of classroom teaching;(2)Construct thematic resources to stimulate students’ interest in reading;(3)Explore teaching strategies to improve reading teaching skills;(4)Enrich course activities and create a reading atmosphere.Based on the above four aspects,this paper proposes a thematic reading teaching strategy for primary school English based on the core literacy of English subjects,and provides suggestions on the design of reading teaching activities for primary school English teachers.For example,in the pre-reading prediction,teachers can use games,songs and ballads to introduce activities.In addition,schools should also provide teachers with professional reading teaching training,support and encourage teachers to actively participate in relevant teaching and research activities.
