A Practice Report On C-E Translation Of The Humanistic Ecology Of Lanzhou Guzi(Chapter Ⅰ)from The Perspective Of Translation Variation Theory

China has accumulated innumerable featured cultures within five thousand years.Among them,Intangible Cultural Heritage is one of the essential branches.More and more China’s Intangible Cultural Heritage content attracts attention from all over the world,so translating its relevant content is of great significance.The source text is from the book The Humanistic Ecology of Lanzhou Guzi,which tells the original history and humanistic stories of Lanzhou Guzi,letting more people know about Guzi and disseminating great Chinese culture.For the cultural text,to let target language readers genuinely know what Lanzhou Guzi is,to understand what the story is about,and to take in what the content has,the translator selects Translation Variation Theory and analyzes text from these three levels: linguistic,cultural,and communicative.On the linguistic level,for the translation of repetitive expressions and run-on sentences in Chinese,the translator mainly uses the methods of “Deletion and Edition,” deleting words and adjusting the order of sentences to make the translation version accord with the expressive habits of the target language.On the cultural level,due to the differences between Chinese and Western cultures,the methods of “Addition and Narration” are used correspondingly,amplifying cultural information through footnotes.Then the author transfers the content of the original text by narrating so that readers can gain the necessary background knowledge while understanding.On the communicative level,the translator uses “Adaptation and Imitation” to change the expression form and imitate classical English expressions to make the target language readers feel familiar with them and thus achieve efficient communication.By translating the source text,it can be concluded that the Translation Variation Theory is suitable to apply to guide the translation of quyi texts.The translator needs to connect the complete text and reasonably choose variant methods to solve the differences between the two languages.The English translation of Lanzhou Guzi aims to enrich the practical application of Translation Variation Theory and to improve the regional cultural identity,which will have positive significance in helping to inherit and make the external promotion of Lanzhou Guzi.
