Abstract/Summary:
Under the trend of globalization,cultural exchanges and communication between countries are becoming more and more frequent.With the peaceful rise of China,more and more people want to know about China and understand Chinese culture.However,driven by the global media,due to the lack of cross-cultural concepts,other wrong perceptions such as stereotypes,cultural misunderstandings are easy to occur.Under such circumstances,how to better shape and spread the image of China is particularly important.Through the ages,in the presentation of various cultural forms,text,especially literary works,as a cultural carrier that is easy to preserve and spread,its description and presentation of the image of China has become an important way of the communication of Chinese culture.While bringing Chinese culture to the world,it also exerts a close influence on cross-cultural communication and cross-cultural teaching.In view of this,the author Pearl Buck,who is renowned worldwide for her works on Chinese themes,is selected in this paper.Through the text analysis of her representative works,excavates the Chinese cultural,analyzes the image of China,explores its significance to the cross-cultural communication of Chinese culture,and brings enlightenment to the international teaching of Chinese language.This paper consists of six parts.The first part is the introduction,which mainly combines the cross-cultural communication theory,the research on the image of China and the research status of Pearl Buck at home and abroad,and expounds the Chinese cultural writing of Pearl Buck’s works under the background of cross-cultural communication and the necessity of studying the image of China,so as to determine the research purpose,significance and research methods of this paper.The second part combines the theory of national image and the concept of cultural,expounds the internal relationship between national image and cultural,cultural image is an important aspect of national image,cultural communication has a very important impact on shaping and displaying national image.The third part starts with the texts of Pearl Buck’s representative works The Earth Trilogy,East Wind · West Wind and My Chinese World,sorts out various kinds of Chinese cultural displayed by them,and analyzes the material of Chinese cultural involved in the texts,including food,clothing,architecture,funerals,festival customs and folk customs.The institutional cultural is dominated by the family system and the marriage system,and the spiritual cultural is dominated by the view of filial piety,the view of children,the love complex and the religious belief.The fourth part,according to the Chinese cultural writing in Pearl Buck’s works,sorts out the phenomenon of her misunderstanding of institutional culture,conceptual culture and social environment in the process of image building and communication in China.The fifth part analyzes the causes of Pearl Buck’s cultural view,that is,the cultural identity of Chinese culture arising from 40years’ living experience in China,the recognition of Chinese culture,the world citizenship and humanitarian position,and the phenomenon of cultural differences under the influence of the historical background and growth experience,stereotypes,ethnocentrism and differences in thinking mode.The sixth part analyzes and summarizes the enlightenment of Chinese cultural writing in Pearl Buck’s works on cross-cultural communication and Chinese teaching,which can help cross-cultural communication by basing on excellent national culture,applying cultural empathy strategy and establishing correct cross-cultural communication consciousness.At the same time,on the basis of correctly perceiving cultural differences,enhancing cultural identity,avoiding egoism and skillfully using effective teaching strategies,the teaching practice of Chinese as a foreign language is promoted.As a disseminator of Chinese culture,it is necessary to establish cross-cultural awareness,correctly perceive cultural differences in teaching,attach importance to cultural misreading,and help Chinese learners understand the cultural connotations involved in text reading through literature teaching under effective teaching strategies,so as to achieve the teaching purpose of correctly and comprehensively understanding the image of China and Chinese culture.
