| This is a report on an E-C translation practice.The source text is an excerpt from the novel I Dreamed I Married Perry Mason written by American writer Susan Kandel.This novel involves multiple elements such as suspense reasoning and fashion,which can meet the diversified reading needs of readers,so it appeals to wide readers of different experience and backgrounds.Through this work,the author shared her insights on career,family and humanity with readers.In order to completely convey the meaning of the source text to target language readers as much as possible,the translator determines to take the Functional Equivalence Theory as guidance of the translation practice,so that an equivalent or similar response could be reproduced in the target readers.Because Functional Equivalence Theory emphasizes "the closest natural equivalent" between the source text and target text,the translation practice under the guidance of this theory can meet the expectation of the translator.From the perspective of Functional Equivalence Theory,the translator,with the target readers as center,discusses the analysis,transfer and restructuring of the source text from lexical level,syntactical level and textual level,so as to make the target text get rid of the linguistic expression form of the source text.The translator not only makes the translation conform to the grammatical norms of the target language,but also reproduces the cohesion and coherence of the source text in the target language,thus achieving textual equivalence.In the translation of this novel,the translator on the one hand realizes information exchange with the target language readers,and on the other hand successfully conveys the author’s feelings and attitudes to the target language readers.In the process of completing this translation practice report,the translator adopts translation techniques to achieve language conversion.For the problems encountered in translation practice,the translator also attempts to find solutions.This translation practice provides an example for Functional Equivalence Theory to guide novel translation. |
